Mrs. Sumithra Weerasooriya is a Research Associate in the Center for Computational Systems Biology (Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Roy G. Perry College of Engineering) at Prairie View A&M University. She has over 20 years research experience in the areas of biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, and clinical sciences. Prior to joining PVAMU, she has been in molecular diagnostics of cancer, diabetes and pharmacogenomics.

She designs and conducts Illumina sequencing, single cell RNAseq, whole genome sequencing and epigenetics experiments by performing statistical analysis, technical evaluation of research experiments, results and molecular biology experiments, prepare proposals for funding agencies, operation and maintenance of research equipment, supervision of graduate students and other lab/field personnel in the Center for Computational Systems Biology.
